February Reading List

My brain has been super rusty and distracted, so I’m being kind to myself right now. I read 3 books in the month of February

  1. How to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy: I had been told to disregard the name of the book, because the name is indeed misleading. This book would have been better off as a collection of essays; it was a lot of scattered thoughts clinging to a central theme of how to resist or actively disengage from the capitalist world we live in. It doesn’t provide an actionable guide by any means, but it did make me think about what doing nothing could mean for me.
  2. The Socrates Express: In Search of Life Lessons from Dead Philosophers: Ah, this book was such a fun intro to philosophers from different ages and schools of thought. I loved the format of it too, the author hones in on one key takeaway from each philosopher that can be mapped to a stage of life. For me, that made the life lessons from this book a lot more memorable.
  3. The Vanishing Half: I still don’t understand why this book was hyped as much as it was. It wasn’t a bad book but apart from the premise, it wasn’t a book that will stay with me. It does raise important and relevant questions about race, but in terms of the actual writing, I wasn’t blown away.
